Hand Laid O Scale Track Part 1

Later I will add descriptions to the photos.
They show my tie laying from start to finish.
I use a piece of 1/8 by 1" Masonite to layout the far end of the ties using the track center-line as a reference

Here ties have been glued in place up against the Masonite strip.  2" T pins hold the strip in place.

Here is the location of a crossover and a RH switch.  Later I will trim the ties.

I insert the ties into a homemade jig for spacing.

Then I apply a piece of 3/4" masking tape to the ties in the jig and then remove them

Then yellow Carpenter's glue is spread out and the ties applied.  Usually add some weights mainly on curves until the glue dries.

Looking down tracks 1, 2, & 3 in Penn Station.  The WMRY track in on the far right and will go in front of the station and the PRR tracks are in the back of the station.  We will view Penn Station from the back

Part 2 will follow with sanding, staining, and weathering the ties in preparation for spiking the rail

CTC Video.

The video below shows a typical small CTC panel in use.  The operator sets up for an East bound train and then a West bound train.  The EB arrives first indicated by the bell and then the WB.

New Penn Station section framework, plywood, and homasote in place.

I have finished building the benchwork and the road bed (3/4 plywood and 1/2 Homasote) for the rebuild of Penn Station area.  Below are some photos of the finished area.  I have marked off center lines for track and turnouts.  I am in the process of ordering rail, fish plate, spikes, and the parts for turnouts so that hand laying can begin.  This will be highly detailed track and will certainly take some time to complete.   But hopefully the results will be worth the effort.  There is a total of 110 feet of hand laid track and five turnouts to be completed in this area.  Also some trolley tracks are planned as part of the Baltimore Transit Company.
On the left is the South end of Union Tunnel.  To the right is the approach tracks to Penn Station.  Also the WMRY track coming from downtown Baltimore and Hillen station.

This is the main portion of Penn Station.  Three tracks in front and the WMRY track behind the station.  Just above is power district 4 with detectors and two CMRI SMINI boards.

On the left is the entrance to B & P Tunnel.  To the right is Fulton Junction where the WMRY connects with the PRR tracks to enter the South end of the tunnel.  The local control panel for Penn Station is sitting on the Homasote.  The upper level on the back right is the connection with the C & O at Durbin, WV.
